In line with the vision of Women of Change Organization, which calls for a society governed by peace and equal rights between genders, we will participate on Saturday with a group of youth-led entities—represented by the Youth Bodies Network—in cooperation with Adeela Organization for Culture and Arts, in the “Youth Dialogue Forum.” Through community dialogues, this forum aims to establish a space for peace within the community.
Dr. Al-Radiya Mohamed Amin will present an important paper entitled “Gender-Based Political Violence.” Our societies—particularly women—suffer from the challenges of political intimidation. As women continue to challenge traditional gender norms that have long excluded them from politics, they are increasingly exposed to attacks and ongoing violence within political institutions.
While both men and women can experience violence in political life, violence against women in politics constitutes a human rights violation. Obstructing women’s political participation is also a violation of political rights. This violence commonly manifests in degrading images, harassment, and threats targeting women activists in public life and women who express political opinions. We have observed that young women and women advocating for gender equality are especially targeted.
Violence against women in politics makes political work difficult, potentially dangerous, and therefore less attractive as a career path for women.
In addition, Mr. Ibrahim Shamo will present a paper on Transitional Justice, which places victims at its core above all other considerations. Transitional justice focuses on victims’ rights and dignity as citizens and individuals, seeks accountability for the harms they have suffered, and works toward recognition and redress. By prioritizing victims’ dignity, transitional justice points the way toward a new social contract that includes all citizens and safeguards the rights of everyone.
The dialogue will be moderated by Ms. Inam Al-Nour.
