On International Human Rights Day, Women of Change stands in solidarity with the women of Darfur, whose fundamental rights have been systematically violated amid ongoing conflict, displacement, and violence.

In Darfur, human rights violations are not abstract concepts or distant statistics. They are lived realities borne by women who have lost their homes, families, livelihoods, and sense of safety. Women who have been forcibly displaced multiple times, now surviving in camps that lack adequate food, healthcare, protection, and dignity. Women whose bodies have been turned into battlegrounds, as sexual violence continues to be used as a weapon of war, compounded by silence, stigma, and the absence of justice.

Darfurian women are carrying unbearable burdens heading households after losing partners, struggling to protect their children, and facing systemic exclusion from education, healthcare, and decision-making spaces. Girls’ education has been disrupted, maternal health services have collapsed, and survivors of violence are left without protection or accountability mechanisms.

The ongoing violations in Darfur including killings, forced displacement, sexual and gender-based violence, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure are not isolated incidents. They are the direct consequence of impunity, the normalization of violence, and the continued marginalization of women’s voices despite their critical role in peacebuilding and community resilience.

At Women of Change, we affirm that the protection of women’s rights in Darfur is not optional; it is fundamental to justice, accountability, and sustainable peace. We therefore call for:

An immediate end to all forms of violence against women and girls in Darfur.

* Accountability for perpetrators and an end to impunity.

* Effective protection for civilians, especially displaced women and girls.

* Unhindered access to essential services, including healthcare, psychosocial support, and education.

* The meaningful inclusion of Darfurian women in peace processes and decision-making at all levels.

* Sustained support for local women-led initiatives working on peace, protection, and recovery.

On this day, we amplify the voices of Darfurian women and reaffirm our commitment to justice, dignity, and equality. Human rights are universal and indivisible and the rights of women in Darfur must not be ignored.
